The Week of July 11, 2022 in the City of Waxahachie

Hey Friends!

Here is a link to the city's calendar so you can see if any new meetings are posted after this newsletter goes out.  https://www.waxahachie.com/calendar.php

Please keep in mind that in each agenda packet, the draft minutes for that board/commission's previous meeting will be in there for that body to review, amend if needed and approve.  The minutes are a great way to get a glimpse of what happened at that previous meeting and the record of any votes that may or may not have taken place. So, I highly encourage everyone who is interested, to at least read the minutes from each packet.

2 - Public Comments

*** 5 - Discuss and consider WCDC Fiscal Year 2023 Budget.  WCDC is funded primarily through sales tax (not property taxes) and is responsible for the Civic Center and Sports Complex in addition to beautification projects around the city. The proposed budget IS included in the agenda packet which I linked above and it is definitely worth taking a look at.  I understand "supply chain issues" and increased costs of goods, but some of the numbers are astronomical.  I would like to know your take as well.

6 -  Hear update of activities from Convention and Visitors Bureau Director - These include a ton of upcoming events THROUGH THE END OF OCTOBER, so you can mark your calendar now!

Public may attend: Yes
Live-streamed: No

6:30 PM - Planning & Zoning Commission Briefing Session

This briefing session will allow members of the commission and city staff to discuss the items on the 7:00 PM agenda.

Public may attend: Yes
Live-streamed: No
Meeting location equipped with audio/visual equipment: Kind of. The conference room is set up to do zoom meetings with a pretty good quality level; however, it does not have the sophisticated equipment the Council Chamber is set up with.  I say low quality streaming is better than no streaming, but that's just me.

We've got some extreme temperatures predicted for the days ahead (I saw 109 yesterday, but today the outlook said it should be 106 for a couple of days coming up), so please be safe, remember your pets and check in on your neighbors.

I hope everyone stays as cool as possible and has a wonderful week ahead!

Your Friendly Neighbor,

Melissa Olson
