If Waxahachie Residents Want to Vote for Your Mayor — Then Get Out and VOTE!!
City Of Waxahachie Residents - SUPER IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - please get out and VOTE. Early voting is going on right now and is the chance that many have been waiting for - THE CHANCE TO DIRECTLY ELECT THE MAYOR OF WAXAHACHIE!!!!
There are two charter amendments that are being proposed, and we really need to have our mayor elected by US!!! Most people don’t know, but right now our Mayor is appointed amongst Council members. You vote for a Council member and then after the election each year, the Council members decide who will serve as Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem for that year. (I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with our current mayor.) What I have heard, however, is that the residents want to elect their mayor outright - AND SO DO I. A “Yes” vote on Proposition A can make that happen!!!
It is extremely hard to get these propositions on the ballot in the first place. The current council has allowed these proposed charter amendments to be on the ballot, but now — people MUST GO VOTE to make this happen!!!
The second proposed amendment is a little trickier because it gives the Council members longer terms; but, it would also allow that if there is a vacancy on the Council, a special election would be called so that RESIDENTS can VOTE to fill that position! Right now, the city’s charter states that a vacancy is filled by an appointment of the Council members.
Last but not least, City Council Place 1 is a contested race. We voted AGAIN for Tres Atkins for reelection. We may not agree on every issue but that’s OK. I KNOW that Tres will always listen, keep an open mind, think through the issues and ALWAYS vote for what’s best for this city and for the residents!!
