Rough & Toothless

Today is rather exciting exciting day in the Olson household! Not only was it Grandparents’ day at Kate’s school, but she lost her first tooth! This is such a wonderful rite of passage signifying that she is, indeed, a big girl. She lost it at school and the nurse gave her a cute tooth holder necklace so she could keep it safe until she reached home! You can see the animated way she tells the story!

I’m sure many an enterprising youth await the financial gains that shall ensue this evening in our very own home. Some even facilitate the visit by going to extreme lengths, ensuring a tooth has been extracted from their mouth. Kate was very upset last  night when the tooth stayed firmly, yet mockingly flimsy in place - But today? Victory!

The Toothfairy... I must say... has been in this racket for years and years! Teeth were only worth about a quarter when I was young (age-related jokes need not be inserted here).  But a first tooth? That IS a special occasion and a treasure by Toothfairy standards. She already has her tooth safely deposited inside the Toothfairy pillow that I made for her older sister many moons ago. After all, traditions must continue!

So as my older brother used to say to me when I was young... is she tough and ruthless or rough and toothless?  I think she's still my sweet Katy-Bear!

P & Z Sign Descriptions

I LOVE when residents reach out to me.  Sometimes folks are upset or frustrated and sometimes it’s to say that I’m doing a good job.  Any which way, I’m happy to hear from y’all.

Waxahachie is an awesome place to live, but the people are what make it even better! A resident contacted me about putting descriptions on P&Z signs (those black and white signs you’ll see around town).  Haven’t you ever wondered what the code meant on them or what is going to be happening at that site?  Well, thanks to this resident, we are going to have that now!

My email to city staff:

Staff was wonderful and got back with me by this afternoon!!

THIS is a great reason why we need to work together!  This wouldn't have come to fruition without the residents bringing the idea forward!  Thank you!!

The Week of September 9th - 13th in the City of Waxahachie!

Hello Neighbors!

I have created a blog (it is still a bit rough since I’m new to this) so that it is easier to communicate with everyone and in particular, those who do not use Facebook or Nextdoor can still get the information.  I hope that this is helpful.  Please subscribe to the blog so you can get notifications when there are new posts!

Now then, we’ve got a very busy week of meetings, so let’s get started!

7:00 PM - P&Z Commission Meeting
Council Chamber, City Hall

Agenda Packet: http://www.waxahachie.com/9-10-19%20P&Z%20Agenda%20Packet.pdf

The first few items on the agenda have been withdrawn or continued to a later date; however, there are some items that may be of interest.

# 11 - Replat for the former First Baptist Church.  This item is on the agenda as "consider" and is not a public hearing.  As far as replats go,  if the applicant meets the guidelines, then they will be approved.

# 13 & 14 -  Public Hearing regarding an SUP (Specific Use Permit) for solar panels at 311 Choctaw Trail.  At this time, staff is recommending denial due to the solar panels facing the ROW (right-of-way). While I'm not a fan of how solar panels look, I AM a fan of people having the right to put them on their homes.

# 15 & 16 - Public Hearing on application from Blue Bonnet Trails LLC to change  their current PD (planned development) from SF2 into SF3 zoning, which is still single family, but smaller lots.  Staff is recommending denial at this time due to the lots being below the minimum requirement for the proposed development.
